To our Tails Troop As many of you are now aware, To our Tails Troop

As many of you are now aware, we have been advised by the Gemeente that we are no longer allowed to offer daycare and boarding services here. In order to do so, we require an Environmental Permit, one that the Gemeente will not grant us because we operate within 100 metres of another residential dwelling, and therefore in violation of the Environmental Act Article 5.1.

From talking to some of the other doggy businesses who operate like ours in residential areas in Amsterdam, it appears that we have been singled out. We have sought legal advice and have been advised that it is unlikely we would win an appeal, nor do we wish to spend lots of money on legal fees only to end up in the same situation.

We are still able to continue to offer dog walking, in-home boarding and pet visits, so do let us know if you need any help in that regard.

We are obviously devastated by this. Thank you for your support over the past seven wonderful years.

Ken & Gary
These posts never get easier, and this one hits pa These posts never get easier, and this one hits particularly hard, which is why it's taken us so long to post about it.

Ginger was adopted by her wonderful owners 15 years ago, and we were lucky enough to have her introduced into our lives in March 2019. Full of character and love for her people, we were very happy to be accepted into Ginger's inner circle. Despite her advancing years, she never lost any of her sparkle, nor her desire for a belly rub and treats.

We cared for Ginger both in her house - to where our dog Max was also invited so he could run up and down her stairs which he loved to do - and at Tails Towers, and it feels weird to know that neither of those things will ever happen again.

Ginger's owners have always been gold star clients, and we're so happy that even though Ginger has left us, you are both still here to reminisce about her with. Thank you for being such amazing clients, and now friends, these past six years.
What an amazing milestone, for both Griff and Team What an amazing milestone, for both Griff and Team Tails. To be honest, he feels like family at this point. From his goofiness to his madness to his softness, he's one of a kind and we wouldn't change him a single a bit.

Thank you for 2000 bookings and here's to many more! We hope you like your special doggy-safe cake courtesy of @ciaomilton
We recently received the sad news that big boy Har We recently received the sad news that big boy Harvey had crossed the rainbow bridge. At 55kg, he was the largest member of our Tails Troop, and he also had the biggest heart. A sofite to rival all softies, he was a delight to look after.

He loved his off-leash walks in the park where he could chase his ball to his heart's content, but he also enjoyed playtime and snuggles at home.

Harvey was the gentlest soul who, for the last five years, had to deal with some rather severe epilepsy that unfortunately took its toll on his body.

His owners were not only the best dog parents to Harvey, they were wonderful clients for us when we were still very new to the industry, and we're forever grateful we were given the chance to them, and humbled to be chosen to care for Harvey.

When Mochi first came to us in 2021 for her trial, When Mochi first came to us in 2021 for her trial, it's safe to say that it didn't go to plan when it came to the resident cats, Beatrix and Klaus.

She was over-stimulated by their presence, and her hunting instinct kicked in, and she subsequently tried to attack Beatrix.

But Mochi's owner was dedicated to working on desensitising her when it came to the cats. And look at her now! She's more than happy to co-exist with the cats and never shows any aggression towards them. It just goes to show the power of good training.

Well done Mochi & Danielle!

The other side of the 'best job in the world'. La The other side of the 'best job in the world'.

Last month we said our final goodbye to 15yo Barrett, having looked after him almost every day for the past 5 years. It's taken us a while to post this as it's just been too difficult to put into words.

Barrett was a huge personality in a tiny dog. Having helped his owner out during a work emergency in January 2019, Barrett soon became a regular fixture on our schedule, initially with two walks each day, before coming for daycare every weekday.

He also boarded with us often, and we took him on holiday with us multiple times, including for Gary's 40th birthday. Like all of the dogs we look after regularly, he became part of our family.

Because of this, we noticed when he first exhibited serious health issues. We were told by the MCD that he had 24 hours to live, but we got three extra 'bonus' years thanks to his fighting spirit.

We were there at the end when he went to sleep, and were able to give him, and his owner, a final comforting cuddle. When owners ask us to help them through this sad stage of pet ownership, it's always the most humbling experience, despite also being the hardest. We arranged Barrett's cremation for his owner and he's sitting safe and sound on our mantlepiece until he can be reunited with his owner.

Social media often only shows the fun and happy side of the pet sitting industry, so we wanted to keep it real and show another side to it. Thank you to all owners who allow us to also say our goodbyes in order to start our own grieving and closure process.

RIP Barrett, thank you for the memories.
